Green Arrow vs. Link
Tags: green arrow, legend of zelda, link
Ground rules: Each combatant will have all the weapons they usually have at their disposal. The arena with be a Hyrulian Castle.
Personal bias: Green Arrow has had some of the best one -liners in comics and dismissing him as a Batman clone is a mistake. He may be a rich playboy who doubles as a well-trained, yet super-powerless vigilante, but the similarities end there…I have played a few of the Legend of Zelda games and have enjoyed that experience more than Arrow’s appearances in my comics. Advantage, Link.
Fight! Link enters the castle through the main gates, following Green Arrows tracks over the drawbridge. It appears Arrow noticed his obvious muddy foot prints upon reaching the stone staircase and rectified the problem. The spiral stairway is the most narrow passage in the castle and limits Link’s view. He opts for his sword.
Green Arrow is perched atop an awning above the dining hall window. He has a clear shot to the top of the spiral stairs. Arrow draws back his loaded bow.
Link nears the second floor and the top of the stairs. The light of the window reflects in his swords. Link kneels down and keeps his head low. Holding the sword behind him he can look into the blade and see the reflection of the dining hall. Tilting the blade slightly, he spies Green Arrow. GA appears to be reaching for his quiver. He exchanges arrows, pulls back the draw string and releases.
With a loud whack the arrow lodges itself in the grout just about Link’s head. Link knew his position was protected from a straight shot, but as he examines the projectile in the wall…a bomb arrow! Link tucks his head between his legs and with a leap, rolls down the stairs just as it blows.
Link hits the floor like a sack of sand. Smoke and debris block his view of the stairs where he left his sword. Another whack sounds above him as an arrow hits the wall above. This one has a cable attached that is immediately drawn taught. Link is loses his footing quicker than he regained it when Green Arrow comes swinging down the cable a into his side. Link fumbles for his boomerang and tosses it towards his foe. GA ducks the attack as he loads up and fires three arrows at once. Rolling onto his stomach, the Hyrulian shield on Link’s back takes the damage. Eager to get off the defensive, Link smiles as he watches the boomerang’s return path into Green Arrow’s left knee–flooring him.
Link returns fire with a trick arrow of his own, a magic laced ice arrow! GA rolls behind the only cover available, an overturned medieval table. The arrow hits the table squarely in the center and bursts. An icy winds hits GA as the table shatters like glass. “I hate magic, you Vulcan fairy!” Arrow exclaims referencing Link’s pointy ears and whimsical attire.
GA shoots a flare arrow into the wall behind him which floods the room with blinding light. He charges towards Link with the light source to his back to finish this–only to find Link has already taken cover back up the stairs. Link has taken cover from both Green Arrows final charge and the short-fuse bomb he left in his path.
Boom.
Results: Link wins and gains another heart container. Green Arrow put up a good fight, but being only a marginally better marksman wasn’t enough to counter Link’s resourcefulness.
