Fictional Fighting at its Finest

Aquaman vs. The Kraken

Tags: , , ,

Ground rules: The classic Arthur Queen Aquaman against the Kraken of the second Pirates of the Carribean movie. The fight will take place in the Atlantic Ocean.

Personal Bias: Arthur is a better character than most give him credit for his appearances in the Justice League alone. The Kraken was cool for the Hans Zimmer theme that accompanied it, but I thought it was a cop out how it was found dead in the third movie of the series.

Fight! Aquaman coming face to face with the Kraken will make clear to him right away that he can’t win this battle on his own. The Kraken will have to chase him.

As Arthur swims away he will have the beast gaining on him. He will attempt to reach out to communicate, only to learn that the Kraken is out for blood. Luckily, Aquaman is a relatively small target, able to weave in and out of the hosile tentacles. Using telepathy, he will make a call out for help. He will also tell nearby fast swimmers, probably dolphins, to go warn the city of Atlantis of the beast and request the Atlantian Army’s aid. Sharks and other sea predators will do their best to harm the Kraken, but will only provide a distraction allowing for Aquaman to gain a little ground…er, water. A giant squid attacks the Kracken and Aquaman sees it as a chances to defeat the beast. He torpedoes for the eye using a coral pole as a spear. The Kraken lashes out in pain, throwing Aquaman away and crushing the squid. Disoriented, Arthur swims out of a cloud of bubbles and further from the now blinded Kraken.

The Kraken spirals in the water in an attempt to find its attacker. Aquaman commands the sealife to surround the monsterĀ  until the forces of Atlantis arrive to put it down.

Results: Aquaman wins with a little help from his friends. True, he couldn’t do it on his own, but his only real power is communicating with fish…and that’s what he did.

See I think that every sea creature would know to fear The Kraken and thus will stay away from it. Also if it can bring whole boats up to splinter then I think it can take a giant squid. It's kind of a really giant squid anyway. And if Aquaman gets to have his finned friends help (even if that is his only talent) then I would think that Davie Jones and his crew could help too. So they could keep the sea creatures at bay. I'm pulling for The Kraken...Mainly because I find Aquaman a very boring and unneeded "super hero".

I held back with Aquaman asking for help. He commands the army of Atlantis also, a force generally accepted as a force near the size of the US military only with more advanced weapons. I figured that wouldn't be fair, and neither would Davy Jones' help.

Asking the sea life for help is his main power, so I figured that was on the table. Although you may be right with needing a few more giant squids to team up against the Kraken.

    I just like that word...Kraken!
  • firstly, Aquaman doesn't `ask fish for help' he prefers to do that, because he's a hero, but as king of the ocean (not just atlantis) and a major telepath he can actually just command fish (and any other sea creature) to do what he wishes. In fact `out for blood' isn't really a strong enough explanation for why the Kraken doesn't just obey Aquaman's commands (in the cartoons and the comcis they always offer some kind of `insane', `controlled by machienery' reason for a seas-creature ignoring Aquaman's telepathy). But even accepting that, Aquanman would absolutely stomp the Kraken. Dude's taken puches from Superboy and Wonder Woman and shook em off, that's heaps harder than a sea-monster that has to strain to crush a ship hits. And he's swum UP niagra falls. That's fast. Sorry Kraken, you're a bad-ass sea-monster and all its true, but hail to the king baby.
